Why Silence and Rest?

  • "Guard your steps as you go to the house of God, and approach to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools; for they do not know that they are doing evil. Do not be quick with your mouth or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God. For God is in heaven and you are on the earth; therefore let your words be few. For the dream comes through much effort, and the voice of a fool through many words." - Ecclesiastes 5:1-3 (NASB)
  • “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 11:28
  • “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him” - Psalm 37:7a
  • “One hand full of rest is better than two fists full of labor and striving after wind.” - Ecclesiastes 4:6
  • “And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.” - Genesis 2:3
  • “Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion.” - Mark 4:38a
  • “On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work.” - Genesis 2:2
  • “We know it is ready because of the place in the Scriptures where it mentions the seventh day: “On the seventh day God rested from all his work.” - Hebrews 4:4
  • “For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.” - Hebrews 4:10
  • “For this is what the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has said: ‘In repentance and rest you will be saved, In quietness and trust is your strength.’” - Isaiah 30:15

Paid 10 Minutes Breaks Are Legal

"Federal law does not require lunch or coffee breaks. However, when employers do offer short breaks (usually lasting about 5 to 20 minutes), federal law considers the breaks as compensable work hours that would be included in the sum of hours worked during the workweek and considered in determining if overtime was worked. Unauthorized extensions of authorized work breaks need not be counted as hours worked when the employer has expressly and unambiguously communicated to the employee that the authorized break may only last for a specific length of time, that any extension of the break is contrary to the employer's rules, and any extension of the break will be punished." - https://www.dol.gov/general/topic/workhours/breaks

"Rest periods of short duration, usually 20 minutes or less, are common in industry (and promote the efficiency of the employee) and are customarily paid for as working time. These short periods must be counted as hours worked." - https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/fact-sheets/22-flsa-hours-worked
